I’m going to start a new series of blog posts called “Half Baked Ideas.” It’s a bunch of blog posts I write explaining random ideas I have during my day. They’re not fully thought out but they do have a “wouldn’t it be cool” essence to it. The ideas are up for grabs for anyone who wants to implement it or start their own company, I don’t demand any equity, but I would like an honorable mention if someone does decide to try one out. It would be very cool to see any one of my ideas come into fruition.
So let’s begin:
Today was gelato day. I fucking love gelato, actually any ice-based substance that isn’t taro flavored, but gelato is one of more top quality foods they would serve in the dining commons, and good food is rare in there.
How could I not know about this? I missed dinner so I wouldn’t have a full stomach going into a 7pm frisbee practice, but had I known about this magical treat, I would’ve blown off my imminent practice to go eat bowlfuls of gelato. Turns out I’m suppose to check the Cal Dining website every day to see what they are serving for the day. What a hassle.
If only someone could implement a website that asks you for your food preferences and checks the website everyday to see if one of the dining commons has the food you want, and send you a text about it. But then you would run into another roadblock which is that users would have to manually input every food they liked and every one they didn’t. Nonsense! With a machine learning alongside with matching aggregate food reviews from other members in the community, the website could “guess” which foods tend to be popular among the school system. Actually “Machine Learning” is just a buzzword I throw out there to make it sound exciting. Although it’s pretty useful to implement, it may not be the most efficient use of my time to build to website.
First idea’s up for grabs!
